Bubba Watson Wins Travelers Championship
Bubba Watson wins Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands for the second time in his career. The loveable lefty was able to hang on and defeat Paul Casey after two playoff holes. This was the sixth time in Watson’s career that he went to a playoff; he is now an impressive 5-1 in those scenarios. Things went awry for Casey on the second playoff hole when his third shot from the bunker overshot the green and landed on the cart path. Watson stuck his approach shot just right of the hole to set up an easy putt for the win.
Bubba previously won the Travelers Championship in 2010 after a three-way playoff. That was Watson’s first career win on the PGA Tour, his victory Sunday was the eighth of his career. Watson dominated early in the tournament, leading after the first two rounds. However, he found himself trailing Brian Harman by a stroke after Saturday. He became the fifth golfer since 2000 to win the Travelers after leading or being tied for the lead heading into round number two. He is now also the sixth golfer in history to win the Travelers Championship multiple times. He joins Billy Casper, Arnold Palmer, Paul Azinger, Phil Mickelson, Peter Jacobsen and Stewart Cink.
