Danny Lee Wins Greenbrier Classic

Danny Lee wins Greenbrier Classic at Old White TPC to earn his first career victory on the PGA Tour. The win earned Lee a $1.2 Million dollar paycheck and a spot in the Open Championship at St. Andrews next week. The New Zealander who is South Korean-born, was able to outlast David Hearn, Kevin Kisner and Robert Streb in a four-man playoff. This was the third time in six years there has been a playoff to decide the Greenbrier Classic. Kisner and Streb were eliminated after the first playoff hole, leaving Lee and Hearn to battle on the second hole. Hearn sent his drive behind a tree, which led to a bogey on the par-5 17th. Lee missed the fairway as well but was able to reach the green in three shots. He then hit two putts to make par and secure the victory in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Lee’s win marks the ninth time this year there has been a first-time winner on the PGA Tour.

Another notable story from the weekend was the play of Tiger Woods. He played remarkably better than he has recently, shooting a 67 on Sunday with no bogeys on the score card. This was the first time in 55 rounds of golf that Tiger did not have at least one bogey. It was also the first time he has been under par in the final round of a tournament since the Tour Championship in 2013.
