Dustin Johnson Wins Genesis Open
Dustin Johnson wins the Genesis Open to gain his 13th career PGA Tour win and become the number one golfer in the world. This is his 10th consecutive PGA Tour season with a win, which is the longest streak among active players. Johnson is just the 8th player in PGA Tour history to win in each of his first 10 full seasons. He now becomes the 20th different world number one since the inception of the World Rankings in 1986 and just the sixth American player to reach the top ranking.
On his way to a dominate five-shot victory at Riviera, Johnson went 49 straight holes without a bogey. He also led the field in driving distance, strokes gained off the tee, greens in regulation and par four scoring. Johnson broke through with his first major title last season, claiming victory in the US Open at Oakmont this past June. After that, he added his third World Golf Championships title, a FedEx Cup playoff event and swept all the major awards, including PGA Tour player of the year.
The 32-year old has now won four times in the last eight months against the most competitive fields in golf. In 16 tournaments since his US Open win, he has finished no worse than third place in eight of them. He has also risen to number 11 on the all-time money list, surpassing Zach Johnson with just over $41 million in earnings.
