Jason Day Wins BMW Championship
Jason Day wins BMW Championship to put himself in great position to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He is first in the standings heading into the final event of the year. The playoffs will conclude this week with the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia.
Day’s win at Conway Farms Golf Club this past weekend also gives him a real chance to be named the PGA Tour player of the year. Before Day’s recent streak of success, it seemed Jordan Spieth was a lock to win the award. Spieth won the first two majors of the year and was the runaway favorite, but now there is a real competition.
Day has now won five times this year, including three of the last five events. One of those wins came at the PGA Championship, his first major championship victory. He has now won twice in the playoffs, edging out Daniel Berger by six shots at the BMW Championship.
The win puts him in elite company with Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh as the only players in the last 20 years to win five or more events in a season. He will now certainly head into the Tour Championship next week as the number one player in the world.
