Jason Day Wins RBC Canadian Open
Jason Day wins RBC Canadian Open to claim his fourth career victory on the PGA Tour. He was able to birdie the final three holes of the tournament to defeat Bubba Watson by one stroke. His 22-foot birdie putt on the 72nd and final hole put him at 17 under 271. The win at Glen Abbey continues Day’s solid stretch of play over the past few months. He won earlier this year in February at Torrey Pines then battled through vertigo symptoms last month at the U.S. Open to finish tied for ninth. He then hovered around the top of the leader board throughout the Open Championship at St. Andrews, finishing in a tie for fourth place.
Day’s win prevented David Hearn from becoming the first Canadian to win the RBC in over 60 years. Hearn had an opportunity to become the first Canadian since Pat Fletcher in 1954 to win the RBC Canadian Open. He was two strokes in front of Day and Bubba Watson heading into the final round, but fell short by two strokes to finish third. Jason Day will now turn his attention toward the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits which begins August 13th. He will be looking to finally get the major championship win that has eluded him thus far in his career.
