Jason Day Wins The Barclays
Jason Day wins The Barclays to earn his third PGA Tour victory in five events. In those past five events, Day is an astounding 73-under par over 20 rounds of play. This recent run of dominance started at the RBC Canadian Open, where he shot 17 under to outlast Bubba Watson by one stroke. He then went on to dominate the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, winning the first major championship of his young career. Even with Jordan Spieth lurking behind him, Day ran away with the event and finished at a record 20-under par. Then this weekend, he again took control of the lead to finish ahead by a comfortable margin. He finished at a terrific 19 under, six shots ahead of Henrik Stenson.
The win at Plainfield Country Club was Day’s fourth of the season, pulling him even with Spieth for the most victories on tour this year. It also places him at number one in FedEx Cup Standings, giving him a great chance to earn the $10 million bonus at the Tour Championship. However, there may be an even more important number one ranking waiting for Day in the near future. With Jordan Spieth struggling mightily and missing the cut at The Barclays, Day now has a chance to become the world’s number one ranked golfer at TPC Boston this week.
