Jimmy Walker Wins Valero Texas Open
Jimmy Walker wins Valero Texas Open for his second win this season. The Valero Texas Open is played every March at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. This tournament dates all the way back to 1922, when it was originally called the Texas Open. It was previously a part of the PGA Tour Fall Series until it was moved back before The Master’s in 2013. The 2015 tournament was played from March 26th-March 29th and was won by American golfer, Jimmy Walker.
Walker’s win was extremely special because it was right in his backyard. He is a local resident who spent his childhood going to watch this exact tournament. He lives 35 minutes from the course in Boerne, Texas and was able to clinch the victory in front of his friends and family. According to PGATour.com, it was a surreal experience which almost left Walker at a loss for words. Walker had not played in two weeks and was able to spend the time at home, preparing for the Valero Texas Open.
The extra time certainly paid off, as he was able to hold off hard charging Jordan Spieth. Spieth is a young, budding superstar who has been playing red hot as of late. With the win, Walker is the first player with multiple wins on tour this season. He also was able to improve his lead in the FedEx Cup to almost 500 points over the aforementioned Jordan Spieth.
