Master’s Tournament 2017: Sergio Garcia Gets His First Major
What an epic tournament?! Sergio Garcia, at 37 years of age, finally got his first major and it wasn’t easy. He finished at 9 under par but had to go into a sudden-death playoff with another one golf’s current greats, Justin Rose, and won with a birdie on Augusta National’s 18th hole.
After playing in his 19th Master’s Tournament Sergio, often referred to as the Spaniard, has taken the longest to getting his first green jacket. From the beginning it was Sergio’s tournament to lose and most thought he might have lost it when he missed a short birdie putt on the 18th hole of regulation play that would have clinched it but his miss ended up forcing a playoff with Justin Rose.
However Sergio kept pushing through and eventually won his first Green Jacket, and the best part is that Justin Rose personally congratulated him and complimented him on his play and how much he deserved this win. The just shows the true sportsmanship of the game of golf and how golf truly is the “Gentlemen’s Game.”
